They thought I was unaware
of their attempts to toy with me;
But I mastered checkers at five,
and though I don’t play chess [often]
I’ve become quite adept at many of its strategies
and tenets.
No matter the moves made
I’m usually already 7 ahead.
They’ll always either have to
King me
or too belatedly realize I’ve checked their king.
Never anyone’s pawn,
Always my own Queen.
I know my own power
as well I as understand their numerous weaknesses.
So cut my check, mate –
Because though I may not always make
the first move
I always make the last.
My moves never lose, and neither do
their maker;
Unfailing gamechangers, every one.
Small uphill battles and petty skirmishes
passive-aggressive timewasters
designed to tip my hand.
But in the wars of will, strength, intellect, and power
I’m on the front lines
and my hand remains the upper…
Game, set, match –
I always win.
